The Performance

The rehearsals leading up to the show didn't go as great as we hoped. We struggled with timing the at the end and the middle. This was due to the fact the music didn't have actual counts to it and in rehearsals people were missing due to auditions ect so we weren't 100% sure when to go on and cues on and off stage. Before the final performance , we all made sure we was focused and made sure we would do Josie and Jacobijn proud and also impress Rolls Royce.I think the final performance went well and we all got our timings and cues correct.I hope the audience and Rolls Royce enjoyed it.

Costume and Lighting

for our piece, we wanted it to stand out and be original. We all decided to have a session discussing ideas on costume .Alot of ideas we're thrown around like leggings with numbers on them , onesies ect but then someone suggested all black morph suits. This was a good idea because then we could paint on anything we want onto them.We looked online to find the most reasonable price and found them. Then we all came up with the idea of painting shapes and examples of symmetry on them with UV paint. This meant for the  lighting we would have to use UV light so the shapes would show on stage. This was cool because I've never used UV light and it was exciting. Our morph suits also has glitter on them so looked even cooler.Hopefully in the show the costumes looked good with the light.

choreographing the piece!

There were many different challenges when it came to choreogrphing the piece. As a dance teacher,Josie's natural instinct was to choreograph good motifs same with us but we all had to keep reminded ourself on the maths side and made sue ourmovements linked in with that.

We used alot of symmetry work, Axis work such as working along the Y and X axis,Rotation ect.
By using these, it generated alot of original movement which we could use throughout the piece.

We also had nother issue Our teacher Josie was unable to finish the dance because she was unable to be in school which meant our piece was unfinished.Andrea came in one lesson and helped us move on with the dance loads and decided she would help us finish it.As andrea had no iea about the intention and fusion,we told her what we knew and together we made the final piece.

I was really happy with the final dance because even though we changed teachers half way through and some off us didnt have a great knowledge of maths,We all worked together and made a piece we were proud of.

Group

Ina nother session we had ,we wanted to explore how we could use symmetry in our dance in a way that the audience could see but also stuck to the rules of symmetry. We got into our groups and was given the challenge of creating a movement phrse which had to be symmetricl with each person, meaning we all had to do the exact same thing ,in unison.

This was a new tool i used to set a piece and also choreograph. We used this alot in the final piece because its a good way of showing how you can use maths within dance.

Symmetry

We started the project by recapping our knowledge on symmetry and also learning new things about it.We learned how we could make patterns with is and how we could interpret that into dance. We all got pieces of paper and drew out our own pattern using 2 lines of symmetry.

We then used these patterns as a floor plan for a motif. This was a really good tool to use because it added something different to a motif but also added the element of maths. We got into groups of 4,My group was Me,Maddie,Andre and Holly. We used Andre's pattern as our floor plan.

We then started seeing ways of walking out this pattern but remembering to keep the symmetry.
After this we played around with different movement and ideas that stuck to the pattern. This was fun because it gave us a different view on choreogrphing and we learnt a new skill.

The Project

For our Route B project this year our Teahcer Josie told us about a project Rolls Royce , the car company, was doing in schools. Our school had been picked as one of the finalists in a project to get maths more involved in schools and use it in different ways.If wwe won,we could get the chance to perform at Rolls Royce functions but also win money for our school. Our piece was inspired by the idea of combining Dance with maths.Josie introduced us to a maths teacher within our school,Jacobijn Scorer, who signed us up for this project. It was great to have her help because she was there to help us with the maths side and always remember to combine maths and dance not just dance.
